Paper Submission
Instructions for Authors
The Organizing Committee is pleased to call for contributed papers, limited to one paper per congress delegate as presenting author. There is one exception to this rule: If you contribute a paper for session 28 (Education and training), you are also permitted to submit one other paper to any of the other sessions.
Papers must be submitted in English. Authors whose native language is not English are strongly advised to have their manuscripts checked by an English-speaking colleague prior to submission.
1 Conference Proceedings
The proceedings of the 9th WCGALP will be published in full on a CD-ROM to be distributed at registration to all delegates along with the program booklet and the book of summaries. The full proceedings will be also published to open access in this web site, having an ISBN-number for proper citation. However, only papers actually presented at the Congress will be included in the proceedings.
2 Electronic submission and editorial process
Papers can only be submitted electronically and will be processed electronically as well; click here for the online submission and the manual for submitting an abstract. Please note that papers may NOT be submitted by e-mail. A submission consists of two separate texts in English, a short abstract (summary) and a full length paper.
Authors are asked to indicate their preference for oral or poster presentation and give their preferred session numbers, but there is no guarantee that these choices can be accommodated.
Authors may consult the status of their paper online and will be notified by May 1, 2010, of its acceptance or rejection and whether an accepted paper is scheduled for oral or poster presentation.
3 Deadline
The online acceptance of papers will end at midnight Pazific Standard Time Zone (PST) on February 28, 2010. Papers may be re-submitted/edited at will up to, but not after, that date.
Authors are kindly requested to follow these guidelines, and to refer to the sample short abstract and the sample full length paper for help. Papers not formatted according to these guidelines will not be accepted. You may wish to download the sample short abstract and sample full length paper and overwrite them.

5 Length of texts
Short abstracts and full length papers are separate texts.
- Full length papers have a maximum length of 8 pages for invited papers and 4 pages for contributed papers.
- Short abstracts must not exceed 13 lines (all lines included).
- Don’t create a table of contents and omit pagination of your texts as they will be part of the conference proceedings.
6 Typesetting
- Fine results will be achieved with LaTeX, as demonstrated by the sample texts for the Short Abstract and the Full Length Paper.
If you prefer to use MS-Word or OpenOffice, adapt the settings of these programs to match our guidelines. For your convenience there are templates to download. These templates reflect the specifications described here.
Create a PDF-file for upload into the submission system. Do not upload documents in MS-Word or OpenOffice format!
- The paper format is A4.
- The type area for summary, article and the body of the text (including tables and figures) should be 13.2 cm x 19.0 cm.
- Text is to be single-spaced, left– and right-justified.
- Use a 10-point Times font.
- Separate paragraphs by a blank line. Do not indent the beginning of paragraphs.
- Use italics for emphasizing names of species (e.g. Coturnix japonica), of loci, genes or markers (e.g RYR-1, S0088), and expressions like et al. and ad lib.
7 Layout of text
Full length paper
Follow the layout described in this document and the samples for Short Abstracts and Full Length Papers.
Short abstract (13 lines or less)
- The title should be in bold type and left-justified. Next, starting on the same line and separated by a simple dash preceded and followed by a space, the authors' names should be in lower case, normal typeface and end with a full stop. Only the name of the presenting author should be in italic typeface. Finally, the affiliation and address of the presenting author only should follow immediately in lower case and regular type.
- The one-paragraph text should be complete in itself, informative, and understandable without reference to the paper.
8 Tables
- Tables should be single-spaced.
- Tables should be numbered in the form «Table 1:» with the following title above the table.
- Tables should have horizontal lines at the top and bottom and under column headings (see sample paper). There should be no vertical lines between columns.
- When they are referred to in the text, tables should be typed in full,
e. g. «Table 2».
9 Figures
Authors are encouraged to take full advantage of the colors widely available in the computer graphics package since the proceedings will be on CD-ROM.
- Legends and symbols should be defined in the figure or in the title. Axes should be labelled.
- Figures should be numbered in the form «Figure 1:» with the following title below the figure.
10 Photographs
An electronic text may be enriched with one color picture when deemed necessary (breed in conservation, colour phenotype). A title should be placed under the photograph.
11 Identification of presenting authors and affiliation of authors
The presenting author should be identified by italic type in the full length paper and the short abstract. The affiliation of the authors should be shown by corresponding superscript symbols.
12 References
- In the body of the text, references should be restricted to authors’ names, followed by year of publication. The names of the first three authors will be followed by et al., if the paper has more than three authors. There is no comma between the author’s name and the year. The earliest work is to be cited first. Letters following the year (a, b,...) must be used to differentiate papers of the same authors published in the same year. A semi-colon should separate references of different authors.
- A complete list of references cited in the text must be given in alphabetical order at the end of the paper and be preceded by the major headline References. In the list, the author's names, year of publication, name of journal, volume number, first and last page number should be in lower case and given in this order. The names of the first three authors will be followed by et al., if the paper has more than three authors. For references which overflow to a second line, use an indentation at the start of the second line. Journal names should be abbreviated and in italics. Do not include the title of the paper.
- Examples: see sample of Full Length Paper.
