Potsdam: Prussia’s Glory

PotsdamCome experience Potsdam! The tour begins at 9:00 a.m. with a bus ride to Potsdam. During the ride, your travel guide will get you in the mood for Brandenburg’s charming capital. A bus tour around Potsdam past sights like the Russian Colony, the Dutch Quarter, Babelsberg and Cecilienhof Palace will help you get a first impression of the city. Then you’ll take a sightseeing trip on the Havel River. Lunch will be served on board. The highlight of the day is a guided walking tour through the breathtaking palace grounds of Sanssouci and the New Palace. You’ll be back in Leipzig around 6:00 p.m.

See the sights of Leipzig, such as St. Thomas Church (where Johann Sebastian Bach worked and is buried), the Mädlerpassage arcade and the Old Town Hall, or enjoy the view from atop the “Cityhochhaus” highrise. Then stop for a short coffee break at the Arabischer Coffebaum, the oldest café and restaurant in town, before continuing on your walk through the historic city center. The tour ends downtown.

Leipzig: Extended sightseeing tour of Leipzig

LeipzigDiscover Leipzig in all of its variety on an extensive sightseeing tour. The tour commences at 9:30 a.m. at a hotel in the city center, where a tour guide will pick you up. Start out with a visit to the New Trade Fair, the “Völkerschlachtdenkmal” monument, as well as to architectural gems such as the “Waldstrassenviertel,” the largest surviving Wilhelminian residential district in Europe. Lunch will be at Cospuden Lake, a beautifully recultivated brown-coal strip mine. The tour is rounded off with a walk through Leipzig’s city center, with stops at a variety of historic shopping arcades and a visit to St. Nicholas Church, where the Peaceful Revolution began that culminated in the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Upon arrival, you’ll visit the Meissen china factory, where you can peer over the shoulder of porcelain artists. Lunch will be at a wine restaurant − Meissen, it so happens, is located in Saxony’s wine-growing region. In the afternoon you’ll tour Albrechtsburg castle and Meissen Cathedral, where you’ll learn about the Reformation in Germany and the history of the Royal House of Saxony. You’ll arrive back in Leipzig at about 6:00 p.m.
