Welcome Ceremony at the Gewandhaus
Sunday, 1 August 2010
We cordially welcome you to the official opening of the 9th World Congress on Genetics Applied to Livestock Production on the evening of 1 August 2010 at the Leipzig Gewandhaus concert hall.
The Gewandhaus orchestra has a long history, and is one of the oldest civic orchestras in the German-speaking world. The concert hall is located directly on “Augustusplatz” square, across from the opera and right next to the university. Apart from Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, famous Gewandhaus conductors have included Wilhelm Furtwängler and Kurt Masur, as well as current musical director Riccardo Chailly.
We are pleased to welcome you on our first evening together at this very special venue for classical music. Along with an official welcoming ceremony, you’ll be treated to a performance of Camille Saint-Saën’s “Carnival of the Animals,” first performed in 1886. This will be followed by a champagne reception with snacks and conversation.
